Kaimahi Hauora Māori - Emergency Department

About the Role

We're looking for a compassionate and confident Hauora Māori Worker to join our Emergency Department team. In this role, you'll support Māori tūroro (patients) and their whānau to feel safe, understood, and cared for during their time in ED. You'll help ensure that te ao Māori, tikanga, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles are embedded in the care we provide.

• Provide whānau‑centred and culturally safe support for Māori patients in the Emergency Department.
• Advocate for Māori health needs and help whānau navigate the hospital system.
• Uphold tikanga Māori and offer cultural guidance to ED staff.
• Contribute to improving equity and health outcomes for Māori in emergency care.

This is a fast‑paced environment where compassion, calmness, and strong communication skills are essential.

About You

Your skills will include :

• A strong understanding of te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori.
• A calm, caring presence and ability to support whānau during times of stress.
• A genuine commitment to improving hauora and equity for tamariki Māori.

Relevant qualifications or experience in Māori health, social services, community work, or child / family support are an advantage.
