About the opportunity - based in Hamilton or WellingtonThis position, while primarily a network operations role, works in a blended operations and design team supporting incident response, preventative maintenance, project implementation, and design work.
Above all, you will be expected to demonstrate ownership and leadership in your subject domain, maintain a relentless customer focus, and take all opportunities to upskill and gain supporting knowledge in order to deliver positive outcomes.
You will work with a range of key internal customers and stakeholders including :
IP Network Team (responsible for LAN and datacentre networks).
Real Time Systems team.ICT teams such as Infrastructure and Security.Wider Transpower teams, such as the Protection and Automation team (responsible for transmission line protection).
Project Managers that manage tasks undertaken on ICT / Grid projects.
As well as a range or external contacts across :
Vendors e.g. Nokia.Transpower Service Providers e.g. Ventia.Third party NOCs e.g. Spark, 2degrees, Kordia, One New Zealand.
What will you bring?
We are seeking applications from individuals who have experience with MPLS-based devices and who have either a background, or the ability to upskill in SDH / PDH technology to support the existing team's operations.
You'll have highly effective verbal and written communication skills and a commitment to maintaining meticulous records.
You will enjoy analysing problems, coming up with solutions, and being able to resolve at pace.
Your CV and cover letter will demonstrate :
Proven relevant experience in operations and support of critical telecommunications systems and platforms.Experience in transport technologies, ideally MPLS and Optical Transport networks (OTN).
In addition, a combination of some of the following will favourably support your application :
Experience using Nokia SDH (1662, 1660), PDH, IXR, SAR-8 and / or 1830 PSS hardware platforms.Radio experience (NEC, Nokia, 9500 MXC).
Experience with the NFM-P, NSP, WS-NOC and / or 1350 OMS, Netcool, AMDocs / Cramer management systems.Understanding of the electricity sector and basic power system principles, such as teleprotection signalling.Experience working in similar critical service environments.
