Responsibilities and opportunities

Gain hands-on surgical experience in a tertiary teaching centre and neighbouring hospitals

Rotate through a broad range of sub-specialties (allocations discussed at interview)

Be part of a supportive, team-based environment with excellent teaching opportunities

Competitive salary package : $106,672 – $134,303 NZD per annum (depending on experience)

The Role

As a Resident Doctor in General Surgery, you will work across hospitals in the Wellington region, gaining exposure to a diverse caseload and benefiting from a collaborative learning environment.

Opportunity to rotate through a variety of surgical sub-specialties :

Vascular (including endovascular work and kidney transplants)

Paediatric Surgery

Cardiothoracic

Neurosurgery

Urology

ENT (Otolaryngology)

Orthopaedics

Plastics

General Surgery (Colorectal, Endocrine, Breast, Upper GI)

Note

Sub-specialty rotations will be confirmed following interview, with preferences considered where possible.

Wellington Regional Hospital

Tertiary referral centre providing secondary and tertiary surgical services to a local population of ~296,000 and a regional population of over 1 million.

Modern facilities including the Surgical Assessment and Planning Unit (SAPU).

Hutt Hospital

Renowned for plastic and maxillofacial surgery, serving as a regional specialist centre.

Surgical capacity includes : 27 general surgery / gynaecology beds, 22 orthopaedic beds, and 27 plastic surgery beds.
