About us

The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is the leading advocate for surgical standards, professionalism and surgical education in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. The College is a not-for-profit organisation that represents more than 8600 surgeons and 1300 surgical trainees and Specialist International Medical Graduates.

RACS also supports healthcare and surgical education in the Asia-Pacific region and is a substantial funder of surgical research. There are nine surgical specialties in Australasia being : Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Urology and Vascular Surgery.

About the role

You will provide high-level support and advice to the Aotearoa New Zealand (AoNZ) National Committee and provide leadership to administer key events and projects to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the AoNZ office, National Committee and other relevant Aotearoa NZ Committees / Subcommittees.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Well-developed people leadership skills with demonstrable experience in managing a team of professionals to achieve desired outcomes in line with strategic and business plans.
  • Ability to gain cooperation and influence people to obtain desired outcomes using strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver a high level of customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective networking skills to address issues and promote advocacy topics with government, health service and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in financial management and budgeting.
  • Experience in organising and managing events, functions, and courses.
  • Well-developed written communication skills, ideally having submission or business writing experience.
  • Experience within the health sector and knowledge of Aotearoa NZ political landscape and healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated skills in self-management, reliability, and accountability.
  • Experience in servicing a committee, including the provision of advice to Chair, drafting correspondence, research, preparing agendas, minute taking, follow up actions, travel, and reports.
