The mission of the Southland Hospital General Medicine Service is to deliver excellent patient care and at the same time facilitate the development of outstanding Registrars.

Consultants work alongside Registrars to provide patient-focused care and high-quality teachingWe handle thousands of inpatients and outpatient encounters every yearWe cover a wide range of medicine specialties, including diabetes and endocrinology, respiratory, renal, and much moreAbout the role
Fully staffed with trained General Physicians, many of whom are also qualified in various subspecialtiesMedical patients are admitted to General Medicine, ensuring exposure to a wide range of medical conditionsExposure to ambulatory work within onsite subspecialties provided by dual-trained General Physicians, including Cardiology, Respiratory, Endocrinology, Nephrology and GastroenterologyCare for acutely unwell patients including those requiring ICU admission, allowing advanced trainees to meet high-acuity training within General MedicineAll other medical subspecialties are covered by visiting consultants from Dunedin Hospital, with opportunities to nurture subspecialty interestsClinically challenging, busy yet supportive environment for growthAbout the Location

About you
Our ideal candidate will have the following :
Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration. Check eligibility on MCNZInterest in Medical Registrar roles is welcome; RMOs with a minimum of one year post-qualification experience and exposure to general medical runs can applyIt is a requirement of the Medical Council of New Zealand that qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you are committed to working in New Zealand, start the EPIC Credentialing process as soon as possible to support timely registration.
