About the Team / Service / Location
The Emergency Department Team is a multidisciplinary group of healthcare professionals who work together to provide immediate care to patients with acute illnesses and injuries.
Whangarei ED serves a population of roughly 180,000, with a catchment area that stretches from Cape Reinga 4.5 hours north, to Te Hana an hour south, encompassing Kaitaia, Rawene, Bay of Islands and Dargaville referral hospitals.
Northlands population is roughly one-third Maori.
We serve as the front door of the hospital, generating 80% of all admissions.
We see self-referred patients as well as GP referrals to ED, and all triage 1's or 2's (high acuity patients).
Our team's success relies on effective communication, collaboration, and a shared commitment to patient well-being, especially in high-pressure situations.
