  • Permanent part-time position (0.8 FTE), working 32 hours per week

  • About the Role

    As a Nurse Practitioner, you will provide advanced clinical expertise and leadership in order to provide patient focused care and coordination that will optimise the patients journey and improve health outcomes for patients accessing the Whangarei Emergency Department.

    This advanced nursing role works autonomously and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary model.

    Key responsibilities include :

    • Provide a specialist nursing expertise that supports care of patients, working collaboratively with clinicians, members of the multi-disciplinary team and other services.
    • Prescribe and administer medications within legislation, codes, scope of practice and according to established prescribing process and best practice guidelines
    • Takes a leadership role, as appropriate, utilising nursing specific knowledge in complex situations across settings and disciplines
    • Lead quality improvement initiatives that integrate current best practice and benchmarking information, and that support innovative practice developments that will enhance service delivery
    • Monitor clinical outcomes / indicators and manage variance to clinical pathway, protocols, or best practice guidelinesClick here to view the position description.
    • About the Team / Service / Location

      The Emergency Department Team is a multidisciplinary group of healthcare professionals who work together to provide immediate care to patients with acute illnesses and injuries.

      Whangarei ED serves a population of roughly 180,000, with a catchment area that stretches from Cape Reinga 4.5 hours north, to Te Hana an hour south, encompassing Kaitaia, Rawene, Bay of Islands and Dargaville referral hospitals.

      Northlands population is roughly one-third Maori.

      We serve as the front door of the hospital, generating 80% of all admissions.

      We see self-referred patients as well as GP referrals to ED, and all triage 1's or 2's (high acuity patients).

      Our team's success relies on effective communication, collaboration, and a shared commitment to patient well-being, especially in high-pressure situations.

      About you

      As a Nurse Practitioner, you will be a professional leader and role model with the ability to inspire, motivate and develop others and have a strong commitment to patient safety, quality improvement and ensuring an excellent standard of care delivery.

    • Registered with NZNC as a Nurse Practitioner with area of practice relevant to Emergency Department
    • Current annual practicing certificate
    • PDRP at designated senior nursing level or Level 4
    • At least 5 years experience in area of practice relevant to emergency department
    • Clinical skills relevant to key focus of clinical practiceWorking at Health New Zealand
