About the RoleIntellectualDisability Forensic Service is part of the Mental Health Addiction andIntellectual Disability Service Directorate (MHAIDs) which encompasses the Capital Coast, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa Districtsand includes local, regional, and national services.Including adult, youth andcommunity services.Wecurrently have a vacancy for a full time Clinical Coordinator in theIntellectual Disability Service.We are a progressive servicecommitted to providing a culture of ongoing professional development for staffthrough regular clinical supervision, excellent professional development andrecognition programme (PDRP) for nursing, regular in-service training andsupport towards external education.Thepurpose of the Clinical Coordinator role is to manage the day to day running ofthe unit under the guidance of the Team Leader.
The Clinical Coordinatorprovides support to the Team Leader in regard to staff rosters, leave andresource management and coordinating the staff and clients daily activities.Coreresponsibilities of the role include :
Delegated responsibility for aspects of the Team Leader roleClinical coordination of the unit activities dailyProfessional practice standards are maintained and monitoredRecognition of financial and resources constraintsMonitoring of annual leave and sick leaveStaff will be engaged in appropriate educationActively contributes to Continuous Quality Improvement activities within the serviceWorks with colleagues in professional development activitiesParticipates in recognised post registration educationActively contributes to risk minimisation activities within the service and identifies risk and suggests improvementsComplies with policies and proceduresComplies with responsibilities under the Health &Safety in the Workplace ActAbout theTeam / Service / LocationThe Regional Intellectual Disability SecureService (RIDSS) provides secure (inpatient) care and rehabilitation servicesfor male and female adults and adolescents who have a diagnosed intellectualdisability and have committed often serious offences.Our clients are usuallyCare Recipients or Special Care Recipients under the Intellectual Disability(Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation) Act,
who have been convicted or foundunfit to stand trial.The service is staffed by a team of cliniciansfrom medical, nursing, allied health and support work backgrounds.We also havemanagement and administrative staff.We have small client numbers in each of our fourinpatient services.
The length of stay for each client varies, and in morerecent years orders have been made for an average of two years.To ensure that ourclients receive the best possible care and rehabilitation, the RIDSS hasdeveloped a Model of Care that draws on the strengths of our clients and eachdiscipline within the multidisciplinary team.
This framework incorporates theGood Lives Model of offender rehabilitation, a comprehensiverisk assessment structure, a Positive Behaviour Support approach to directcare, and a formal staff supervision and education programme.
About youHas a post graduate qualification (or working towards one) in Nursing.Minimum of 3 years post registration working in a Mental Health or Intellectual Disability serviceCurrent annual practising certificate.Registered with the NZ Nursing council.Has a full current NZ Drivers licence.Experience in coordinating a team of clinicians and support staff.Experience in negotiation and networking across several disciplines.Experience in taking ownership accountability and responsibility for the role.Experience in anticipating, identifying, resolving clinical and administrative / management problems to the desired goals.Experience in managing change.Experience in coordinating quality systems, andKnowledge of intellectual disability is essential.Working at HealthNew ZealandHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is'the weaving of wellness'.We're dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare forthe people of Aotearoa / New Zealand.Our people are at the heart ofeverything we do.
