Te Otu Mātua HRC is a time-limited intervention for rangatahi who experience neurodiverse challenges such as ASD, intellectual impairments, specific learning disabilities, ADHD, and trauma, as well as a range of similar presentations that may not have been diagnosed. Our values are Whanaungatanga / Build relationships, Manawa-Roa / Be reflective, and Whaiwhakaaro / Reflect. Our vision for each akonga is ‘Whakarangatirahia / Be the best you can be’. To experience success in education, these young people need to feel safe, make connections, and learn ways to manage their emotions.
Every interaction with every ākonga by every kaiako has the potential to make a difference for that ākonga. We are intentional in creating a therapeutic environment that supports ākonga to develop the emotional, social, and regulation skills essential to being ready to learn and to take these skills with them when they leave. We work in partnership with ākonga whānau, the enrolling school, and referrer.
