Overview

This is a varied and dynamic role, providing clinical assessment and treatment interventions for students experiencing mild to moderate alcohol and / or drug (AOD) concerns.

The position involves working both independently and in collaboration with internal and external services to ensure comprehensive support for students.

In addition, the role supports the Mental Health team by responding to walk-in presentations of distress as part of the Active Response Team.

You will also work closely with the Counselling Service to facilitate AOD referrals, making this an exciting opportunity to contribute across multiple areas of student wellbeing.

The Role Will Support Students With

A range of appropriate interventions (minimal, brief to comprehensive) within all clinical pathways.

Development of treatment plans which include goal setting and interventions.

Maximise outcomes for students experiencing distress

Same day response for students experiencing mental health issues

The role is a part-time (0.8FTE), (30 hours per week) fixed-term role for 11 months.

The salary range for this role is $83,330 - $102,900 per annum, prorated depending on experience and qualifications.

About you

We're seeking a skilled and compassionate professional who can bring expertise and energy to this role.

You will :

Have experience working with alcohol and drug (AOD) interventions.

Be confident in developing support plans and delivering therapeutic interventions.

Bring proven experience in triage and initial assessment.

Demonstrate strong relationship-building skills with clients, community agencies, and other university services.

Thrive in a busy, collaborative, and dynamic team environment.

Hold professional registration under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance (HPCA) Act 2003 (e.g. mental health nurse, psychologist, occupational therapist, social worker).

Maintain a current Annual Practising Certificate.

Have a sound understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in practice.

Possess knowledge of mental health issues and confidence in managing high-risk situations.
