Overview

Clinical Advisor – Healthcare Facility Design role at Southern Cross Healthcare. You will help shape safe, functional, and future-ready healthcare environments by partnering with property, project, and clinical teams to provide expert clinical insight at every stage of planning, design, construction, and maintenance. Your guidance will ensure facilities meet high standards of infection prevention and control, support optimal clinical workflows, and deliver excellent experiences for patients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret design documentation and advise on ventilation and environmental systems.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and Safety in Design workshops.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and healthcare teams to translate models of care into practical design solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with ACIPC, AHFG, AS / NZS 1668, and leading clinical planning standards (e.g., JCI, ACORN, AORN).
  • Translate infection prevention and control principles into safe, compliant facility design.
  • Audit the built environment and provide clinical education on design best practices.
  • Support a safe, compliant, and excellence-driven facility design across projects of varying scale.

Qualifications

  • A strong clinical foundation – Registered Nurse, Allied Health professional, or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree or higher).
  • At least 5 years of hands-on clinical experience, with understanding of acute care environments.
  • Proven involvement in capital works, healthcare design, or major health infrastructure projects where clinical insights shaped outcomes.
  • Deep knowledge of ACIPC, AHFG, AS / NZS 1668, and standards such as JCI, ACORN, and AORN.
  • Ability to translate infection prevention and control principles into practical design solutions.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with the confidence to influence architects, engineers, and technical teams from a clinical perspective.
  • Understanding of hospital flow and patient journeys to design spaces that support safe, seamless, and efficient care delivery.
