The Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu Nomination And Appointment Process is being undertaken to appoint Ngai Tahu representatives to the Species Recovery Groups for Takahe and Whio.Functions of the Species Recovery GroupsTo recover the species from the threat of extinction.Implement, monitor, and review the Species Recovery Plan.Purpose of the roleThe purpose of these roles is to represent the Ngai Tahu perspective to the Species Recovery Groups Takahe and Whio, ensuring that any issues of tribal significance are reported to Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu while also ensuring that tribal matters of significance are represented.Required Skills, Experience And QualificationsA keen interest in the conservation of threatened taonga species.Ideally an understanding of relevant tikanga, including bird transfers and liaison with other iwi.An understanding of Ngai Tahu values in relation to species conservation and an ability to promote and articulate these values.The ability to listen, analyse issues, participate in discussions, and reach consensus decisions.Regular, reliable access to email and / or mobile phone to maintain effective communication and participation in the role.Ideally able to communicate regularly by email.The time and energy for Species Recovery Group meetings which includes but is not limited to : Frequent hui (online or in person depending on location).

An annual or bi-annual 1–3 day meeting.Email correspondence and background reading.To report back and keep the Office informed of issues arising.To meet with Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu representatives on other Species Recovery Groups to discuss and develop matters of mutual interest.To liaise with Papatipu Runanga.Position Briefs for Species Recovery Groups Takahe and Whio attached for more details.Meeting detailsAn in-person annual or bi-annual meeting of 1–3 days, sometimes involving a field trip and online meetings.

Frequency depends on the work for the respective Species Recovery Groups.

Remuneration of $500 per day.
