Join Stats NZ in guiding ethical data practices across the organization, ensuring that data governance, AI development, and digital transformation uphold tikanga, protect Māori data sovereignty, and foster trust with iwi, hapū, and Māori communities.

What the role looks like

• Lead data ethics initiatives across the organisation.
• Work closely with stakeholders, data teams, and the public to embed Māori perspectives.
• Develop guidelines and conduct training on Ngā Tikanga Paihere, the Algorithm Charter, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• Support digital transformation projects with a focus on cultural competence.
• Prepare plain‑English summaries of complex data concepts for non‑technical audiences.
• Engage with iwi, hapū and Tiriti partners to align projects with Māori values.
