Job Description Director, Process Design – Te Au Reka Programme Full Time, 3 year Fixed Term opportunity Ministry of Justice | Senior Leadership Opportunity Transforming Justice for Aotearoa New Zealand Te Au Reka is one of the most significant transformation programmes in New Zealand's justice sector.

As a joint initiative between the Ministry of Justice and the judiciary, Te Au Reka will modernise the administration of justice across our courts and tribunals.

By digitising and streamlining processes, we aim to make engaging with the courts simpler, faster, and more accessible for all New Zealanders.

This work will touch the lives of everyone who interacts with our courts, supporting fair and safe communities.

Te Haeata / The Opportunity We are seeking a strategic leader to join us as Director, Process Design within the Te Au Reka programme.

This is a critical role at the heart of our transformation, responsible for articulating and shaping the processes that underpin the effectiveness of our courts and tribunals—now and into the future.

As Director, you will : Lead the development and implementation of user-centred processes for the new digital case management service, Te Au Reka.

Translate business and court needs into functional requirements, ensuring solutions are practical, reliable, and aligned with strategic goals.

Build and maintain strong relationships across the Ministry, and with the judiciary, suppliers, the profession, government agencies, and other key groups.

Champion and develop a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and excellence within your team and across the programme.

Be part of the Leadership Team responsible for the successful delivery of Te Au Reka.

Play a key role in the direction of Te Au Reka, from concept to execution, ensuring the programme delivers real value to the courts, tribunals, and the people of New Zealand.

O pukenga / Skills and Experience You are an experienced senior leader with a proven track record in process design, and transformational change.

You bring : Significant experience at a senior management level, ideally within the public sector or justice system.

Deep knowledge of business design, process improvement, and service delivery in complex environments.

Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to engage credibly at all levels.

A collaborative, inclusive leadership style that builds capability and fosters high performance.

Utu a-tau / Salary The appointing salary for this role is between $176,308 and $244,038, with the likely appointing salary between $176,308 and $227,440 based on skills and experience.
