Job description

Community Integration Advisor - Planning, Funding and Outcomes

  • Role only open to current Health New Zealand Employees
  • Based in Southern | Permanent Full-time
  • A role that places you at the intersection of local leadership, system change, and community wellbeing
  • Grow your strategic and facilitation capability

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.

We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.

Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

About the Role

As a Community Integration Advisor, you'll work within subregions across Te Waipounamu to help establish and grow local leadership arrangements aligned to Pae Ora. Your work will include enabling mana whenua to participate as lead partners, supporting collective-impact approaches, and strengthening commissioning capability to uplift wellbeing at a community level.

You’ll help guide service development, enable flexible and adaptive local models, and foster relationships across health, social, local government, and community sectors. You will support commissioning processes, contribute to procurement, and ensure that service arrangements deliver high-quality outcomes.

This is a role for someone who thrives in relationship-driven environments, enjoys system-level thinking, and is energised by the opportunity to support transformational change at local and regional levels.

This role is only open to current Health New Zealand Employees.

About you

You are someone who brings people together — a connector, a facilitator, and a strategic thinker who understands that lasting change happens when communities are empowered to lead it. You move confidently between relationship-building, system design, and practical implementation, and you know how to create environments where diverse voices can collaborate toward shared outcomes.

You will likely bring :

  • Strong experience in community development, place-based planning, or systems change, ideally in health or social sectors.
  • Deep understanding of partnership with Māori, including the ability to support mana whenua and Māori-led solutions within localities.
  • Proven ability to foster collaborative relationships across health, social services, education, local government, iwi, and community organisations.
  • Skill in convening and facilitating groups, managing multiple perspectives, and creating shared pathways forward.
  • Experience supporting commissioning processes, including service co-design, procurement, or contract monitoring.
  • Excellent communication, engagement, and advisory capability, including translating strategic intent into practical steps that communities and partners can act on.
  • A commitment to equity, and an understanding of how system design and investment decisions can improve outcomes for Māori, Pacific peoples, disabled communities, and underserved populations.
  • You are someone who sees the bigger picture, values partnership over hierarchy, and is energised by the opportunity to help communities shape their own wellbeing journey.

    Working at Health New Zealand

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand. We embrace a workforce that is diverse and inclusive so that we are better positioned to understand and service our community. We welcome applications from our diverse Māori, Pacific, disabled, and rainbow communities.
