Our Waihi Operation in the North Island of New Zealand is an underground operation. A recent consent to develop the previous Martha mine has provided our project with an extension of life providing our 350 staff and contractors, and the people of Waihi, an assurance that we plan to be here for the long-term.
Job Description
Responsible for the installation, maintenance and optimisation of the underground radio communications, fibre optic cables, network system and WiFi devices to facilitate a reliable and effective communications network to support 24 / 7 mining operations.
Responsibilities
- Design, repair, and installation of communications equipment : wireless broadband technology, Cisco Systems, Leaky Feeder communications and Fiber Optics
- Install and maintain voice radio communications devices and ancillary equipment
- Commissioning of new communication technology introduced to the site
- Person and asset tracking via the MST collision awareness system
- Fault-finding, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of the communications networks
- Install and maintain data capture devices, fixed and mobile
- Assist the Underground electrical team with installations and services as required
- Routine inspections of communications equipment
- Carry out preventive measures and condition reporting
- Ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment
- Recording all relevant information into Oceana Gold CMMS as required
Qualifications
Current New Zealand electrical practising licenceTrade certificate in Electrical Engineering / Electronics Technician / Radio Communications or equivalentFull and current Driver Licence, competent with driving manual vehiclesExperience
Five years post apprenticeship trade experience, preferably in an underground mining environmentCertified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT), Certified Network Cable Installer (CNCI) qualifications and / or tertiary qualification in IT, Communications and or Instrumentation is desirableNetwork switches, wireless access points and network device configurationsAnalogue VHF and Radio VHF experienceExtra Low Voltage systems and fault findingLeaky Feeder VHF communicationsUse of Spectrum Analyzer and Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) preferableAbility to program Icom RadiosKnowledge of SCADA monitoring traffic management, IP cameras and IP telephonesDigital and analogue radio network experienceAdditional information
