Plant Metallurgist (1 year fixed term contract)

Provide technical expertise, guidance and reasoning to ensure the process plant is metallurgically optimised to safely produce gold in the most cost effective and sustainable way. Apply chemical, metallurgical and process engineering fundamentals to solve problems or improve existing processes.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Production / Operational
- Update plant critical parameters for processing.
- Monitor and track reagent usage and cost in accordance with budget and weekly / forecast plans.
- Monitor metallurgical performance through throughput, feed grades, tails grades and recoveries in accordance with budget and weekly plans.
- Conduct plant trials and surveys.
- Walk the circuit at least twice daily and provide operational feedback to Process Coordinators regarding housekeeping, circuit operation and operator coaching.
- Review Pi Vision, Asset Intellect and critical laboratory spreadsheets before daily production meetings to provide metallurgical directions and learnings.
- Communicate with Process Coordinators to ensure metallurgical optimisation in the process plant.
- Develop test work programs for metallurgical technicians as required to assist plant optimisation.
- Participate in metallurgical on-call coverage and weekend support as required.
- Participate in Mining blend meetings.
- Provide metallurgical support to other OceanaGold sites as required.
- Manage process automation and process control to optimise metallurgical plant performance.
- Develop and update process flowsheets and metallurgical plant design.
- Improve environmental performance of metallurgical operations and meet environmental standards.
- Review processing plant parameters in reference to future ore test work results to identify potential risks and improvement opportunities.
- Perform process troubleshooting and metallurgical investigations to ensure the plant is optimised metallurgically.
- Other tasks as assigned in the Annual Incentive Plan (AIP).
Maintenance
May be required to work night shifts during shutdowns to provide supervision and metallurgical support.Raise Work Requests and follow up in Maintenance Planning meetings to ensure efficient operation of equipment.Generate and distribute shutdown reports on metallurgical monitoring equipment.Reporting
Generate and distribute daily production reports.Generate weekly flash reports.Generate and distribute monthly reports.Conduct weekly metallurgy presentations.Qualifications
Graduate Diploma of Metallurgy with relevant experience or a 3- to 4-year degree in Metallurgy / Chemical Engineering.Full and current Driver Licence; ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.Experience
Five to seven years metallurgical experience, preferably with sulphide milling and flotation processes.Experience with gold oxidation processes and leaching is well regarded; project development and production facets of metallurgy are advantageous.Software experience in Pronto, Asset Intellect, Pi Vision, Power BI, INX and InTuition.Additional Information
