When nature thrives, we all thrive. He angitūtanga | About the roleAs the Technical Advisor, Marine you will provide support across the organisation and wider on marine mammal issues. You will play a pivotal role in marine mammal conservation through providing technical advice and strategic direction.In this role, you will : Provide science and technical advice for statutory processes, including permissions, concessions, Resource Management Act, EEZ Act and fast-track applications Provide science and technical advice to operational teams around cetacean conservation Assist with cetacean data management and analysis to further the department's conservation of threatened species Assist with the development of strategic directions for managing cetaceans in Aotearoa, aligning with DOC's broader goals and Te Mana o te TaiaoThe role will primarily involve providing reactive advice to ensure the department's effective management of marine mammals, with a focus on non-fishing related threats. Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experienceYou have a genuine passion for marine mammal conservation and dedication to preserving our marine species. You are confident in engaging with stakeholders, proficient in data analysis and translating technical information to others.You will also have : A post-graduate degree in a relevant scientific field and / or equivalent experience. Robust understanding of cetacean conservation issues and opportunities. Experience providing technical advice to support cetacean conservation. An eye for detail and strong finishing skills. Excellent communication skills with an emphasis on translating complex scientific information into plain language suitable for a variety of audiences.
