Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) is New Zealand's largest school with a roll of up to 24,000 ākonga (students) at any point of time. We provide personalised and authentic learning programmes through distance education from early childhood to NCEA Level 3, including to young adult and adult learners.
Our vision is to enable our ākonga to achieve their educational and personal goals, empowering them to become engaged and contributing members of their communities. Ki te tī, ki te tā, ki te katoa – Anytime, anywhere, anyone.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this position :
As a Kaiāwhina at Te Kura you will work directly with at risk ākonga and young adults aged 16-19 individually and in small groups to motivate, encourage and support them to engage in learning activities and to support their hauora | wellbeing.
You will work in collaboration with others to improve outcomes for ākonga and young adults. Supporting them to re-engage in their learning, and / or to successfully transition on to further education, training or employment.
You will engage with our ākonga face-to-face at huinga ako (advisories) and events and work onsite with colleagues in our regional offices and learning hub once established.
Ko koe tēnei | About you
We are looking for people with excellent interpersonal skills and an inclusive approach, able to quickly build rapport and trust with ākonga. You will be expected to be aware of the health and safety requirements for working with ākonga outside the classroom and comply with the school's policies at all times.
Knowledge and experience of Tikanga and Te Reo Māori is an advantage.
