About the Role
This is a senior-level position responsible for conducting in-depth financial analysis and providing strategic insights to guide the planning and budgeting process. The scope of work includes the development of sophisticated financial models, scenario analysis, and performance assessments to support the creation of both short and long-term financial plans and budgets. The role also involves leading complex analytical projects within the financial planning and analysis function.
The Principal Analyst FP & A will provide strategic insights and advanced analytical support to enhance the integrity and effectiveness of reporting deliverables, thereby enabling timely decision-making across Health New Zealand. The position is pivotal in producing insights and analysis related to payroll and workforce analytics, including productivity, financial sustainability plans, and key drivers of financial performance.
About the Service
The Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) is a newly created national function to support organisational decision-making and prudent stewardship of financial resources by providing transparent, data-informed analysis of financial and non-financial drivers of performance. This team will deliver a forward-looking approach to planning, budgeting, reporting and forecasting, that is centred on enabling an integrated performance story for Health NZ, working collaboratively across the organisation at all levels.
About you
We are seeking a highly experienced finance professional with a minimum of 10 years in senior financial analysis roles, bringing a proven ability to deliver strategic insights that drive effective planning and budgeting. You have a strong track record in preparing and analysing internal financial reports, ensuring compliance with standards while providing accurate, actionable insights to support informed decision-making at the executive and Board level.
Your strengths lie in interpreting complex financial data, conducting scenario analysis, and identifying key trends and performance drivers. You communicate financial insights clearly and collaborate effectively with senior leaders, including the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis. With extensive experience leading annual budgeting processes, you ensure accuracy, relevance, and strategic alignment of financial information to support organisational goals.
You also hold professional qualifications such as Chartered Accountant status or equivalent membership of a recognised accounting association.
