About Us
As an emergency service agency, QFES is responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property across Queensland through the provision of effective prevention, preparation, response and recovery activities across a range of emergency situations. QFES comprises the Fire and Rescue Service, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups.
Purpose of the Role
To deliver high-quality fire, rescue, emergency and disaster management services through a single agency, contributing to improved safety outcomes for the community.
Key Requirements
- Employers written consent to attend incidents and emergencies (where applicable)
- Live or work within a reasonable distance of auxiliary fire station
- Australian Permanent Resident Status
- Manual C Class driver’s licence
Commitments
Attend incident and emergency calls – 50% of calls as a day worker with routine hours or 30% as a shift worker or have non‑routine hoursAttend 75% of regular drill and training sessionsObtain an MRV licence within 12 months of employmentParticipate in ongoing skills acquisition and maintenance programmes, including first aid / emergency careComply with QFES policies and procedures including code of conduct, safety and personal presentation standardsYour Key Accountabilities
Respond to fire and other emergency incidents as part of a teamPromote community safety and emergency preparedness through community education activitiesDevelop competencies via regular drills and trainingMaintain required attendance for incidents and trainingOperate specialist firefighting and rescue equipment safelyContribute to upkeep and hygiene of station facilitiesEnsure maintenance and repair of operational equipment and station facilitiesContribute to incident reporting and general station administrationPromote a positive team approach and comply with legislative, policy and procedural requirementsCommunicate effectively with QFES personnel and the communityMaintain a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to organisational health principles and proceduresCapabilities
