Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property across Queensland through prevention, preparation, response and recovery activities. The department comprises the Fire and Rescue Service, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and supports other volunteer groups.

Key Requirements

  • Employers written consent to attend incidents and emergencies (where applicable)
  • Live or work within a reasonable distance of auxiliary fire station
  • Australian Permanent Resident Status
  • Manual C Class driver’s licence

Expectations : commit to participation in calls, drills, MRV licence, skills programs, compliance with policies.

Accountabilities

  • Respond to fire and other emergency incidents; auxiliary firefighters may attend all activities except emergency incidents if pre-operational aspects incomplete.
  • Promote community safety and emergency preparedness through education activities.
  • Develop and maintain competencies by participating in regular drills and training courses.
  • Maintain required attendance standards for emergency incidents and training.
  • Operate specialist firefighting and rescue equipment safely and effectively.
  • Contribute to upkeep and hygiene of station facilities.
  • Ensure maintenance and repair of operational equipment and station facilities.
  • Contribute to incident reporting and general station administration as required.
  • Promote a positive team approach and comply with legislative, policy and procedural requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with QFES personnel, other emergency service providers and the community.
  • Adhere to organisational health principles and procedures.
