In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting the rollout of the Public Safety Network (PSN) across New Zealand—a critical communications system serving New Zealand Police, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, Hato Hone St John, and Wellington Free Ambulance.The role is pivotal in ensuring the successful design, deployment, and verification of radio access network (RAN) elements within land-mobile radio (LMR) systems.
You will use advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools to transform complex data into accessible formats such as maps and 3D models, supporting seamless integration of coverage verification technologies (CVT).
The Systems Engineer - GIS will be involved in all project stages, including RF system design, coverage and frequency planning, CVT planning and deployment, and detailed analysis of drive test data to validate and optimise coverage.

The duties of the roleUndertake GIS planning and post-processing verification for LMR system coverage across multiple projects.Collating, processing, and analysing CVT data using GIS and mapping systems against coverage designs.Using and developing specialist GIS software to convert complex data into user-friendly formats such as maps and 3D virtual models.Designing data specifications for collection methods and accuracy levels.Writing and presenting reports on geospatial data analysis.Participating in design reviews and technology road mapping for supporting systems.Working with clients to develop and support CVT deployment, including staff and client training.Providing peer support for radio network design and understanding field activities required for deployment.Establishing clear goals and outcomes, assigning work to technical staff, and monitoring delivery progress.Producing documentation and specifications for both customers and internal use, ensuring accuracy and quality.
O pukenga - About YouTo be successful in this role, you have a qualification or degree in a relevant field (Degree in Electronics, Data Analytics, Geographic Information Systems or Geoinformatics).
You will also bring : 5+ years' experience in Geographic Information Systems, with strong expertise in GIS mapping and data processing tools.Proven ability to analyse coverage and frequency data, with hands-on experience in CVT systems or similar.Experience in RF system design, system analysis, or exposure to radio communications projects (advantageous).
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical analysis clearly.A positive, collaborative approach, with the flexibility to adapt to project needs and deliver excellent outcomes for clients.
PreferredProject Management certification (e.g., PMP).
Professional Engineering registration (e.g., IPENZ).
