Overview
You'll be part of a cross-functional team focused on creating and maintaining high-impact, high-traffic applications used across New Zealand and around the world.
Your work will ensure the ongoing reliability, usability, and scalability of the systems that power MetService.
You will design, develop, modernise, document, test, and maintain cloud-based software applications and APIs.
You will contribute to delivering scalable, secure, and reliable solutions that support MetService's mission.
The ideal candidate for this role will have a background in developing and delivering cloud-based applications and services.
You will bring a problem-solving mindset, a hunger for learning, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and business stakeholders.
You will also
Have strong programming skills in Python and experience working with cloud environments (preferably AWS); familiarity with Java is a plus.
Hands-on experience with serverless architectures, especially AWS Lambda
AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Developer - Associate or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, or equivalent hands-on experience.

Please note : In January 2025, the Government announced plans for the future of the New Zealand science system, including the creation of new Public Research Organisations.
As part of this, we will be bringing together the significant capabilities and resources of MetService and Earth Sciences to provide the best weather forecasting system for New Zealand now and into the future.
To achieve this Earth Sciences will acquire MetService as a wholly owned subsidiary, with MetService retaining its role as New Zealand's authorised meteorological voice.
