Overview

Lead Software Engineer - Product & Technology at Xero. We’re hiring for multiple positions with a focus on two key areas : Xero Product, where you will work to continuously improve the features of Xero software; and Xero Platform, where you\'ll build and maintain critical applications and services consumed by teams throughout Xero globally.

As a Lead Engineer you will be a key part of one of our product teams. It is a hands-on role, the focal point where technical decisions meet strategic thinking. You\'ll support the team by providing guidance and coaching around what great delivery, testing and performance practices look like. These roles can enable you to grow into a Principal Engineer or Architecture role as you demonstrate the ability to influence the organization towards engineering excellence.

We believe a solid technical foundation and a growth mindset are keys to success in Software Engineering. Relevant experience and the ability to learn quickly are valued higher than a long list of required technologies.

Responsibilities

• Operate as a hands-on Lead Engineer within a product team, balancing technical decisions with strategic thinking.
• Provide guidance and coaching on delivery, testing, and performance practices.
• Collaborate with Product, Design and Engineering to deliver scalable software.
• Help grow into Principal Engineer or Architecture roles by influencing the organization toward engineering excellence.
• Contribute to building microservices, AWS-based architectures, containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes), and front-end interfaces (React with TypeScript) as part of modern codebases.
