POSITION SUMMARY
The PAR porter is a member of the Post Anaesthetic Room Team who assists the nursing staff to transport patients, stock supplies and perform light housekeeping duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Grade 12 education; able to read, speak and write English
Able to communicate effectively and tactfully with patients and members of the health care team
Good interpersonal skills; able to work in a team setting
Demonstrated ability to organize time and prioritize needs to complete assigned tasks
Demonstrated initiative to work independently.
Able to follow directions correctly
Good attendance and work performance record is essential
RESPONSIBILITIES
Transports patients within DSU (escort patients to roof deck etc) and to PAR or In-patient areas as needed
Cleans stretchers and replaces linen upon return of stretcher to DSU and ensures all DSU bays are ready
Cleans IV carts routinely throughout day
Cleans patient bays and prepares bay for patient arrival including cleaning blood pressure cuff / oximeter probes between patients
Stocks blanket warmer with linen
Keeps an eye on linen supply and will request extra supplies when required.
Keep supply of pillows and pillowcases.
Restocks nursing supplies at each bay and within the cupboards and stock areas in DSU and requests extra supplies when required
Assists with the general clean-up of the unit including laundry / garbage disposal
Delivers laboratory specimens to the lab as required
Collects devices for return to MDR, OR, PAR etc
Accountable for delivery of patient belongings to inpatient units with sign off
Answers the phone, using proper identification when the UCC or a nurse is busy
Assists the nurse with patient support as requested
Performs tasks requested by the Nurse Manager or delegate
Reports to the Team Lead / CN prior to leaving the unit at the end of the tour
Other duties as assigned
WAGE RATE
Hourly : $27.70....$28.90....$30.11 (plus 14% in lieu of benefits)
