If you answered yes to any of these, then we are looking for you to join our dedicated team as a full-time permanent Forensic Pathology Technician with the Northern Forensic Pathology Service based at Auckland City Hospital / Te Toka Tumai.While qualified candidates who have a QMLT (Qualified Medical Laboratory Technician) and an APC (Annual Practising Certificate) with the Medical Sciences Council are preferred, we are open to having a Trainee learn the ropes in our facility and service.The OpportunityThis isn't your typical 9-to-5 job.

As a Forensic Pathology Technician, you're not just working in a lab; you're an integral part of post-mortem examinations, performing detailed eviscerations.

While not glamorous, the work you do is incredibly important to family, whanau, community and the .

The position working hours are Monday to Friday 7 : 00am-3 : 30pm.

Rostered weekend on-call shifts are part of the role, but you'll only be rostered on once you have some experience under your belt.What You'll DoAssist pathologists with post-mortem examinations (including evisceration) and specimen collection in cases, including any deaths that are sudden, unexplained, violent or appear self-inflicted.

This includes suspicious deaths and homicides.Assist with hospital post-mortems and work on cases involving infectious diseases.We also provide support for the National Perinatal Pathology Service (NPPS) as they carry out perinatal postmortemsMaintain accurate case records and ensure chain of custodyCarry out post-mortem imaging including photography and in-house CT scanningManagement of deceased / tupapakuHelp with day-to-day running and maintenance of theatre and supporting the serviceWhat You'll BringAttention to detail and accuracy with excellent documentation skillsA cool head under pressureBackground in forensic pathology, science, mortuary work , forensic science, medical laboratory work or funeral work is recommended but not requiredSome knowledge of working with different cultural backgroundsAbility to follow explicit procedures and maintain confidentialityAbility to handle sensitive material with care and discretionWhy Join Us?

Once the QMLT is successfully achieved, you will move into the role of a permanent, qualified Forensic Pathology Technician.About the Department of Forensic PathologyThe largest and busiest forensic pathology department in Aotearoa New ZealandIANZ and NAME accredited facility (one of only a couple of forensic pathology services accredited by the National Association of Medical Examiners outside of the USA)Complete more than 1000 coronial cases every yearComplete more than 200 perinatal cases every yearInvolved in training of anatomical pathology and forensic pathology registrars / fellowsInvolved in the training and teaching of medical students, NZ police and other groups.Provide forensic assistance in national and international mass disastersCurrently, the only forensic pathology facility in New Zealand with a dedicated CT scannerOur mission is to provide the "best service, delivered in the best place, by the best people"Our OrganisationWe are Te Whatu Ora Te Toka Tumai Auckland.
