Job description

Community Partnership and Engagement Advisor

Strengthen relationships with diverse communities to reduce dog-related harm and nuisance

Lead culturally responsive engagement and training initiatives across Auckland

Empower Maori and Pasifika voices through community-led partnerships and outreach

Auckland Council is seeking a passionate and community-focused

Community, Partnerships and Engagement Advisor

to strengthen relationships between Council and our diverse communities—particularly Maori and Pasifika—while helping reduce dog-related harm and nuisance across the region.

In this dynamic role, you'll lead culturally responsive engagement initiatives, build strong partnerships with local boards and community groups, and support Animal Management staff through training programmes that enhance cultural competency and public presentation skills.

You'll also coordinate educational outreach and champion community-led solutions that make a real difference.

This is a regionally impactful role that blends strategic thinking with hands-on community engagement.

Flexibility and mobility are key, as some events may occur outside standard business hours.

This role is permanent full-time, working 40 hours per week.

Work is location-varied across our Auckland offices : CBD, Albany, Waitakere, and Manukau.

You're a connector—empathetic, culturally aware, and deeply committed to empowering communities.

You bring :

Proven experience in community engagement or stakeholder management (5+ years)

Strong understanding of Maori and Pasifika cultures, languages, and traditions

Ability or fluency in Te Reo Maori or a Pasifika language (desirable)

Excellent communication and public speaking skills

Ability to design and deliver training programmes

A collaborative, adaptable mindset and a passion for community wellbeing

A full and valid NZ driver's licence

If you're ready to help shape safer, stronger communities through meaningful engagement, we'd love to hear from you.

At Auckland Council, you will join a dynamic, supportive environment where your mahi (work) will directly impact the lives of over 1.7 million Aucklanders.

We offer flexible working conditions, a focus on well-being, and a culture of continuous improvement.

We are proud to be recognised for our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

We are accredited by GenderTick, a signatory of the Pride Pledge.

These commitments reflect our ongoing efforts to create a workplace where all staff feel valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.

Together, we can create a Tamaki Makaurau we can all be proud of.

Benefits

Salary ranges from $88,000 to $104,000 per annum plus KiwiSaver and benefits.
