About the Role

We are looking for innovative, committed, forward thinking registered nurses to join the team in Intensive Care Services, Wellington Hospital.

Our service encompasses all specialties including cardio-thoracic, neurosurgery and paediatrics.

The staff nurse role will be for a permanent or fixed-term position covering 12hour rostered and rotating shifts and will either be full-time or part-time (minimum 0.7fte (28hrs per week).

The successful applicants will commence between January and April

The Service offers support on the Professional Development Recognition Programme and progress towards a Masters degree.

There is also the opportunity to train as a PAR Nurse (Patient At Risk) or as a Flight Nurse within the busiest flight retrieval service in New Zealand.

About the Team / Service Location

We are a multi-disciplinary clinical team who provide tertiary critical care for a wide range of patients.

These include patients who have had complex operations on their heart, brain, spine or bowel.

We also care for patients with medical problems such as diseases of the nervous system, heart, lungs, kidneys, liver or blood vessels, and support people with infection, cancer, or after bone marrow transplants.

We also provide critical care to children who need it.

We are the regional major trauma unit, looking after people with serious injuries.

Our ICU staff provide several other services to help patients, their families and whanau before, during, and after they are in our care.

These include aeromedical retrieval, ward support through the Patient At Risk (PAR) service and the Tracheostomy Review and Management Service (TRAMS), patient diaries, pet therapy, psychologists, and a bereavement group.

About you

A background in critical care is desired however, two years of ward care nursing experience is a minimum requirement.
