Job Summary
Mentors engineers within the regional engineering, design, construction and site operations job families. Performs the planning, system design, system implementation, system maintenance and support. Leads medium to large scale projects and the roll out of engineering initiatives. Develops and implements policies and procedures. Effectively interacts with other internal and external teams, including the design engineering, site engineering, construction management and regional operations teams, onsite support vendors and consultants on projects, policies and procedures. Plans and directs day to day operations and strategic direction of delivery of either multiple, large construction projects or delivery of operations for an Data Center portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Leads and manages multiple projects or other design and engineering initiatives
- Provides guidance, technical expertise and project leadership in ensuring projects or other design and engineering initiatives are meeting or exceeding company expectations
System Operation and Work Practices (including Capacity Planning)
Expert operating knowledge of engineering systems to include advanced diagnostics and repairsAbility to apply knowledge of Equinix processes and procedures and industry standards to resolve non-routine issuesWorks with vendors to identify and resolve hardware and software issues with vendors products which affect Equinix operations (i.e., works with equipment vendors to understand the impacts and consequential workarounds of an equipment setting change based on its hardware design and the site configuration of the equipment)Evaluates and assures the safe working practices of othersReviews and recommends work practice guidelines and policiesInteracts with other engineering, design and construction disciplinesWorks with the capacity and site engineering teams to formulate long term strategies for managing power and cooling resourcesTraining
Contributes to identifying and developing training programsProvides cross-functional trainingAcquires knowledge by expanding experience with systems, vendor training, participation in industry groups or meetings and shadowing othersIs SME with many systems and trains others inside and outside of the groupContract Administration
Contributes to developing and executing effective contract administration procedures including generation, review, and monitoring of contracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and other pertinent documents and documentationLeadership and Communications (including Vendor Mgmt.)
Mentors junior team members. Directs all internal and external project team membersDirects external vendors per project or initiative such as general contractors, A&E design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc.Significantly contributes to establishing and maintaining high value relationshipsProvides executive level communication including business requirements documents and advanced technical writingCommunicates Equinix operations decisions to customers and conducts post incident communications with customersPredominantly peer-to-peer communicationPolicy & Procedure Development and Adherence

Consistently solves complex, cross-functional issues requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve (i.e., works with local ops team to perform root cause analysis for complex incident, proposes solutions and works out implications to issues and produce lessons learnt for future reference)Makes recommendations for system level enhancements to eliminate potential problemsTests suitability of components or action plans for deploymentsTechnical Expertise
Has an expert level system knowledgeIs a subject matter expert to others in and outside of the group.
