The Department of Conservation has recently made some big changes so we can achieve the conservation outcomes we're aiming for.

As part of this, we've introduced a new role : Site Support Officer.

In this role, you'll be the go-to person for keeping our DOC sites running smoothly and safely.

Based in Franz Josef, and reporting to the Operations Advisor, you'll provide essential administrative support across our three South Westland offices – Fox Glacier, Franz Josef, and Haast.

Regular travel including fortnightly overnight stays in Haast (1-3 nights) means you'll get to experience the full beauty of the District, while supporting our teams on the ground.

What you'll be doing :

Supporting the District's three Site Leads to ensure smooth and safe operation of DOC premises, acting as the main contact for office and facility issues

Being the go-to person for general office management

Ensuring DOC vehicles across the District are fit for purpose and maintained as required (such as services and WOFs etc)

Supporting key site health and safety tasks as required such as safety / fire drills, site inductions, regular checks and ACC safety audits

What we are looking for :

Proven experience in a broad administration support, facility or fleet management role

A natural problem solver with strong organisational skills and attention to detail

The ability to manage multiple priorities with ease

A confident communicator who enjoys building relationships and working collaboratively with a wide range of people

Someone who is passionate about conservation and contributing to DOC's goals

Tech-savvy and ready to help others embrace new systems and tools

A proactive approach to work with a continuous improvement mindset, always looking for more efficient ways to get things done

A valid driver's licence (essential) and a current first aid certificate (desirable)

You will be joining a positive, enthusiastic team of over 30 permanent staff spread across three stunning locations, delivering conservation outcomes from the mountains to the sea.

The salary range for this position is $65,070 - $75,981 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
