Lead the structural engineering function at Auckland Council.

Be the senior subject matter expert for structural engineering, responsible for critical decision-making, advanced technical advice, and ensuring the delivery of timely, customer-focused assessments and value engineering.

Responsibilities
Oversee the structural engineering input into the building consent process, managing technical risks, and promoting structural engineering excellence across the Council.
Provide expert advice to senior leaders, including the Chief Engineer and Head of Engineering and Technical Services.
Represent the Council in legal proceedings related to structural engineering matters.
Coach, motivate and develop your team to deliver exceptional customer service and advanced engineering competencies.
Qualifications
Either a Bachelor of Engineering with a specialisation in Structural Engineering and extensive experience in the field, or equivalent.
Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accredited by Engineering New Zealand, or demonstrate equivalent capability to operate at the CPEng level.
A deep understanding of New Zealand's building legislation, including the Building Act, Building Code, Health and Safety at Work Act
A strong background in design, peer review, seismic assessments and construction monitoring across residential, commercial and industrial projects.
Expertise in evaluating complex building consent applications and providing high-quality structural engineering advice.
Proficiency in relevant structural engineering software packages.
Excellent communication skills, a collaborative mindset and a commitment to delivering outstanding customer service.
Proven leadership experience—guiding and mentoring engineering teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence, and contributing to strategic decision-making.
