Clinical Nurse Specialist – Haematology, Nelson Hospital

Permanent 0.8FTE (working 64 hours a fortnight)

Advanced practice role providing care across community, inpatient, and outpatient settings

Primarily based in Nelson but need to be willing to cover district wide

We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist (Haematology) to join our oncology nursing team in a permanent 0.8FTE position.

The role provides advanced clinical assessment, holistic cancer care, and specialist support for patients and their whanau across the Nelson Marlborough region.

About the Team / Service / Location

Our service provides comprehensive haematology and oncology care across the district, supporting patients throughout their cancer journey with a strong focus on collaboration, equity and coordinated care.

Working closely with specialist oncology nurses, the Haematology CNS will also partner with Haematology and Medical Oncology teams to strengthen communication, streamline care pathways, and ensure best practice cancer care delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver expert haematology nursing assessment, treatment support, and care planning.

Provide advanced clinical input to optimise patient outcomes and cancer care coordination.

Mentor and support nurses across primary and secondary care to build haematology nursing capability.

Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based pathways, protocols, and guidelines.

Lead nurse-led initiatives that enhance continuity of care and safe, timely discharge planning.

This is a highly clinical role, with a focus on expert patient management, advanced practice, and ensuring consistency and quality in haematology care delivery across the district.

About You

You will have a minimum of five years post-registration experience, including caring for adults with cancer.

You will have demonstrated advanced nursing practice skill, knowledge and capability - evidenced through participation in service and care planning within multidisciplinary teams of professionals, focused on effective delivery of care to this specialised client group.

A current Proficient or Expert level PDRP portfolio.

Proven leadership, teamwork and collaboration skills integral to continuity of service delivery.

Good time management skills and ability to manage work in a planned and coordinated manner.

A current full driver's license with no endorsements.

A post-graduate nursing qualification is desirable or a commitment to work towards.
