About the role

We’re seeking an experienced Project Controls Lead to lead the project controls function across a portfolio of high-value, complex property and infrastructure projects in New Zealand. You’ll provide strategic oversight of cost, schedule, risk, and forecasting, enabling senior management and delivery teams to make informed, timely decisions. This is a unique opportunity to define and develop our Project Controls capability in NZ, leveraging an established local team while being supported by a global consultancy with international reach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, define, and govern the full project controls function across cost, schedule, risk, forecasting, and performance reporting.
  • Oversee project portfolios from initiation to completion : baseline setup, progress monitoring, variance analysis, forecasting (EAC), and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain schedule networks (critical path, resource loading), cost control systems, and risk / opportunity registers.
  • Provide clear, actionable insights to senior leadership on cost, schedule, risk exposure, change control, and earned value metrics.
  • Implement, optimise, and embed project controls tools, systems, dashboards, and analytics to improve transparency and efficiency.
  • Facilitate project controls meetings, steering committees, and cross-functional forums, integrating controls with engineering, procurement, construction, contracts, finance, and supply-chain teams.
  • Mentor and lead a high-performing project controls team, driving consistency and capability development across projects.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, contracts, standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Support tendering and bid activities with cost / schedule input, risk assessment, resource planning, and controls strategy.

About You

  • 10+ years' experience in project controls across medium-to-large capital / infrastructure projects.
  • Proven track record leading project controls for multi-million to multi-billion-dollar projects or portfolios.
  • Strong knowledge of scheduling tools (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project), cost control / forecasting tools, data analytics (Excel, Power BI, SAP / Oracle), and earned value management (EVM).
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills, with experience influencing senior management and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated capability and enthusiasm for finding opportunities and strengthening relationships with the external market.
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance / Business, or equivalent experience. Certifications such as PMP, AACE, PMI-SP are a plus.
  • Analytical, problem-solving mindset, and the ability to drive continuous improvement in project delivery practices.
  • Why choose TSA Riley?

Your TSA Riley career promises personal growth, professional excellence, and a welcoming, inclusive workplace.

  • We are a certified "Great Place To Work" with a positive, fair, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture.
  • Award-winning learning and development and a commitment to DEI, with recognition in HR Awards programs.
  • Hybrid working arrangements to support work-life balance.
  • Comprehensive benefits, rewards and recognition, including generous parental leave and leave options.
  • Career growth across our services, opportunities to engage with thought leadership, and involvement in DEI initiatives.
  • Excellent digital systems and tools to support productivity, connectivity and security.
  • At TSA Riley we celebrate diversity and welcome individuals from all backgrounds. We are committed to creating an accessible, inclusive and equitable workplace. For recruitment-related inquiries, please contact our People & Culture team.
