Accountant – Strategic Financial Role in Property Group
Location : Whangarei, Northland
Our client is a
privately owned, multi-entity organisation
based in Whangarei, responsible for the strategic management and daily operations of a group of commercial and residential property development and investment companies.
With a strong presence in the Northland, our client is seeking a
proactive, technically strong Accountant
to join their leadership team.

You'll work closely with the GM / CFO and Directors, providing accurate, timely financial information to support strategic decisions across the group.
About the Role
You will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations across multiple entities and providing accurate, insightful reporting.
You'll lead the finance function from end to end – from transaction processing and payroll through to monthly reporting, budgeting, and tax planning.
This is a varied role where
commercial thinking, attention to detail, and strong systems knowledge
will be key to success.
You'll also provide support for major property transactions, development projects, and tenancy management.
Key responsibilities include :
Monthly management accounts, financial analysis, and project reporting
Preparation of annual accounts and liaison with external advisors
Budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow planning
Tax compliance (GST, PAYE, and income tax planning)
Payroll, accounts payable / receivable, and reconciliations
Fixed asset register and depreciation schedules
Support for property and development activities
Process improvement and strengthening financial controls
Oversight of IT systems and planning (software / hardware)
You'll be hands-on throughout the month to ensure the finance function meets all deadlines and maintains a high standard of reporting.
About You
We're looking for someone who is technically competent, commercially aware, and enjoys being part of a small but effective team.
You will bring :
Chartered Accountant qualification
(or equivalent)
minimum of 5 years' experience
in a full-function accounting role
Property development or project accounting experience (ideal, but not essential)
Strong knowledge of NZ tax and payroll legislation
Exceptional accuracy, attention to detail, and financial acumen
A positive, "can-do" attitude and proactive mindset
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
