Kaiāwhina Whaiaro - Personal Assistant to the Principal

Taranaki Diocesan School for Girls is an Anglican boarding and day secondary school set in the heart of Taranaki. We provide a tailored learning environment where every girl matters.

We are recruiting for a newly established position, Kaiāwhina Whaiaro - Personal Assistant to the Principal.

The Kaiāwhina Whaiaro will work closely with the Principal as directed, providing HR related administration, school event organisation and any other administration support needed. This will include managing the transition from existing hard-copy paper employment records to a digital platform that supports improved HR processes (HRMS).

The Kaiāwhina Whaiaro will also serve as secretary to both the Board of Proprietors and the Board of Trustees and may be required to act as the Returning Officer for Board elections.

This role is permanent part time, 20 hours per week, term time only, with some flexibility required. Usual working hours are Mon- Fri 9am – 1pm except on days of Board meetings which require a later start to coincide with an evening meeting. Further exception to usual working hours will be required to support events including prizegiving and assemblies where they occur during the afternoon or evening.

Required skills and experience :

  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (essential)
  • Ability to prioritise and work to deadlines (essential)
  • Professional presentation (essential)
  • Human Resources administration experience essential including knowledge of employment legislation (desirable)
  • Prior experience with Human Resources Management software (desirable)
  • General file management proficiency including capability to transform paper-copy files to digital system(s)
  • Prior experience as a personal assistant (desirable)
  • Event and meeting organisation (desirable)
  • Secretarial skills including for governance boards (desirable)
  • A tertiary qualification is desirable one of the following areas : human resources, secretarial services or office administration
