Responsibilities

We are looking for someone with strong interpersonal and relationship building skills to provide up- to-date accurate information and advice on MIT and its programmes to key schools and communities, thereby encouraging the recruitment of new ākonga to MIT with an emphasis on Māori. You will bring strong experience in and be comfortable working with schools, iwi, hapu, whanau, marae, Māori community organisations, and government agencies to assist Māori to further embrace education and encourage their enrolment at MIT.

  • Ideally you will have a tertiary qualification and / or previous work experience in ākonga recruitment.
  • You are confident working closely with the community and utilising your strong communication skills.
  • You have a level of fluency in Te Reo and Tikanga Māori and proficiency in Mātauranga Māori
  • An understanding of local whanau, hapu and iwi Māori issues.
  • A self-starter who can manage deadline with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite especially Word and Excel are required.
  • Comfortable working with Te Reo, Tikanga and MātaurangaMāori 'kanohi ki te kanohi', face to face, and online,
  • A full driver's licence is essential.

  • Established in 1970, Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) (Te Whare Takiura o Manukau) has been serving ākonga, students and the communities of South Auckland for over fifty years. MIT is a Business Division of Te Pūkenga, bringing together on-the-job, campus and online vocational education. Together with 16 Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics and 9 Industry Training Organisation our purpose is learning with purpose helping New Zealand move to a vocational education system that puts ākonga, learners in the centre.
