Senior Education Advisor, Schooling

About this roleThis is a permanent, full-time role based in the Whangarei office, Te Tai Tokerau.

Start date is negotiable up to the beginning of 2026.Date advertised : 16 Sept 2025Location : Whangarei, NZRole purposeThe Senior Education Advisor works directly with tumuaki, senior school leaders, and Boards of Trustees to strengthen educational performance in schools and kura.

You will ensure sector leaders and the communities in which they operate have access to the expertise, programmes and resources to support students in reaching their full potential.ResponsibilitiesContribute to the Education Advisory service by supporting the implementation of education priorities in collaboration with the education sector.Communicate government priorities and strategies, and ensure they are understood and delivered on.Identify, broker and provide implementation support; track and report on progress.Work with schools, kura and whanau to promote attendance and engagement in education.Utilise the suite of supports and interventions to improve attendance and achievement outcomes.Salary and benefitsSalary range : $84,425 - $102,271 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver.

The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary reflecting individual skills and experience.For more details about the role, view the Job Description.About youWe are looking for someone with experience in and knowledge of the schooling sector and associated legislation.

To be successful, you will need : A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent level of practical experience, preferably in a leadership role within a school.Experience in building relationships and influencing change to achieve outcomes.Ability to use data and insights to identify trends, risks and opportunities.Strong engagement and communication skills, including experience of providing high quality and timely advice – written and verbal.The ability to work as part of an integrated team delivering services to the education sector.Understanding of National Education and Learner Priorities (NELP), Ka Hikitia, the Action Plan for Pacific Education, and Success for All, and how these documents impact this work.Ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.Willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.Current full driver's licence as the role involves some regional travel.About our groupTe Mahau | Te Tai Raro provides leadership and integrated services to the education sector, including learning support, education advice and regulation for schools and early learning services, and curriculum support.
