Clinical Advisor – Healthcare Facility Design

As our Clinical Advisor – Healthcare Facility Design, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping safe, functional, and future-ready healthcare environments. Partnering with property, project, and clinical teams, you’ll bring expert clinical insight to every stage of planning, design, construction, and maintenance—whether it’s a large-scale capital development or a small upgrade project. Your guidance will ensure our facilities meet the highest standards of infection prevention and control, support optimal clinical workflows, and deliver outstanding experiences for both patients and staff.

In this role, you’ll review and interpret design documentation, advise on ventilation and environmental systems, and contribute to risk assessments and Safety in Design workshops. You’ll collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and healthcare teams to translate models of care into practical design solutions, ensuring compliance with ACIPC, AHFG, Australian / New Zealand Standard 1668 (AS / NZS 1668), and leading clinical planning standards such as Joint Commission International (JCI), Australian College of Perioperative Nurses (ACORN), and Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN).

From auditing the built environment to providing clinical education on design best practices, you’ll be at the forefront of ensuring Southern Cross Healthcare facilities remain safe, compliant, and designed for excellence.

Please note this role can be worked from any location in New Zealand, preferably Auckland or one of the other bigger cities and you might need to travel for this role as required.

  • A strong clinical foundation – you’re a Registered Nurse, Allied Health professional, or hold an equivalent clinical qualification (Bachelor’s degree or higher).
  • At least 5 years’ hands-on clinical experience, with a solid grasp of the realities of acute care environments.
  • Proven involvement in capital works, healthcare design, or major health infrastructure projects where your clinical insights shaped outcomes.
  • Deep knowledge of ACIPC, AHFG, AS / NZS 1668, and leading clinical planning standards such as JCI, ACORN, and AORN.
  • The ability to translate infection prevention and control principles into practical, safe, and compliant facility design solutions.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to influence architects, engineers, and technical teams from a clinical lens.
  • A clear understanding of hospital flow and patient journeys, with the vision to design spaces that support safe, seamless, and efficient care delivery.
  • Competitive Rewards : Attractive remuneration package, relocation allowance, and employee referral bonus scheme.
  • Health & Wellbeing : Funded health insurance, a comprehensive wellbeing programme, and generous Christmas / New Year breaks.
  • Flexibility & Growth : Flexible working arrangements and a Nursing Council of New Zealand-approved PDRP.
  • Perks & Community : Discounts from a range of partners and the opportunity to join our Employee Rainbow Network.
