An exciting full-time permanent opportunity has arisen to join Tamaki Pataka Korero Auckland Central City Library, as part of the Central City Hub, as a
Community Engagement Librarian
in the
Community Response team!
The focus of this role is to engage with the broader community within Auckland's central city and the Waitemata local board.
You will be working with some of our more vulnerable communities and building connections between the Central City Hub and local organizations.
You will build and maintain relationships, look to identify service gaps, and apply co-design principles to design services and programmes that are driven by community need.
This will include a focus on community well-being, addressing loneliness, homelessness, and youth homelessness, inclusivity and more, all through a lens of wellbeing and hauora.
You will also be taking on a senior responsibility within our frontline library service, helping staff with general customer service inquiries, promoting our book collections, engaging with our digital resources, problem solving challenging situations that include some security processes and supporting staff in maintaining a quality, community focused frontline library service.
Key Responsibilities
The role includes working with vulnerable communities, building connections between the Central City Hub and local organisations, building and maintaining relationships, identifying service gaps, applying co-design principles, managing senior responsibilities, supporting staff, and ensuring a community-focused frontline library service.
Qualifications
Leadership experience, taking over a supervisory role when required; resilient, problem-solving and people-first approach to work.
Strong understanding of the importance of relationship building with the different local communities within central Auckland.
Enthusiasm and creativity, able to confidently design and deliver people-focused programmes, events and activities.
Ability to develop rapport with diverse communities, build stakeholder relationships and work collaboratively, utilising excellent communication skills.
A strong interest and awareness of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the confidence to lead responsive services that meet the needs of Maori.
Working Hours & Schedule
Position is 40 hours per week.
The library is open seven days a week, so flexibility around working hours, including weekends, is required.
The role will require one late night and one weekend day per week.
Current rostered days are Tuesday to Saturday with a Friday late shift.

Salary range is $76,000 to $89,000 per annum, depending on experience.
Additional Information
Previous library experience is helpful but not essential.
In this role you will not only be a valued member of the Central City Library team, but also an innovator and connector working closely with programmers / libraries across the Central City Hub.
The Central City Hub includes Central City Library, Ellen Melville Community Centre, Te Wharekura and Albert Park Cottage.
