Principal Communications Advisor, Mayor of Auckland

Role overview

Manage high-profile correspondence and sensitive information in a fast-paced, high-trust environment.

Reporting to Head of Communications.

Responsibilities

Oversee preparation of official and general correspondence.

Maintain records and manage official information (LGOIMA) requests for the Mayor and Chief of Staff.

Collaborate with colleagues across the Mayoral Office, wider council group, and external partners to maintain clear communication and trusted relationships.

About you

Highly organized and composed professional – calm under pressure, detail-focused, able to manage shifting priorities with confidence in a fast-paced and politically nuanced environment.

Proven experience supporting senior leaders – ideally within local government.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential matters.

Exceptional attention to detail; engages effectively with people at all levels; able to work independently and as part of a close-knit team.
