Senior House Officer Ortho Ed / Trauma

About the role

This role has been specially designed for Senior House Officers who are interested in a career in orthopaedics but feel they need a little more orthopaedic experience before taking the step up to registrar.

The run is six months in length, after which you will move to the main House Officer team.

Predominantly, the House Officer remains in ED, seeing orthopaedic patients but will help in fracture clinics when free.

The role is Monday to Friday 8am - 4pm and is categorised as a D Band.

You'll be part of a dedicated team providing comprehensive elective general orthopaedic services, as well as 24-hour orthopaedic trauma and orthopaedic emergency care.

The scope of your work will be varied and will include exposure to a range of subspecialties including :

• trauma surgery
• joint replacement
• spinal surgery
• paediatric orthopaedics
• foot and ankle surgery
• sports medicine orthopaedic surgery
• occupational medicine
• upper limb surgery.

This role belongs to the New Zealand Resident Doctors' Association and Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) Collective Agreement and Specialty Trainees of New Zealand (STONZ) and Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) Collective Agreement.

About the Location

The main cities and towns in the Southern District include Dunedin, Invercargill, Queenstown, and Wanaka.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have :

• registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

• we are interested in hearing from RMOs with a minimum of two years post qualification experience, and ideally an RMO who wants a career in orthopaedics.

However, we can consider those who are keen on an ED career

It is requirement of the Medical Council of New Zealand that your qualifications are approved through EPIC.

If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand, it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion.
