Policy Manager

Te Haeata / The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced policy professional to lead a team focused on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) policy.

This is a secondment / fixed-term opportunity to July 2027.

Reporting to the Director, AML Policy in Criminal Justice Unit, you will lead one of two AML-focused policy teams.

The Criminal Justice Unit has a broad focus on criminal justice and criminal law developments, both internationally and domestically.

The unit focuses on the drivers of crime and reducing offending behaviour, drawing in social policy and justice objectives and focus areas.

The Criminal Justice business unit considers the perspectives of, and works with, a broad range of stakeholders and policy levers beyond legislation and justice sector agencies.

The Ministry of Justice plays a leading role in the AML / CFT system, including administering the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism (AML / CFT) Act 2009.

We are responsible for delivering legislative changes, monitoring the system, leading cross-system co-ordination, governance and stewardship, and leading international engagement.

This is an exciting time to contribute to our AML work - New Zealand's approach to AML is undergoing significant system-level change.

Our programme of work is broad, complex, and fast-paced.

We work closely with a range of stakeholders, including the Departmental of Internal Affairs, Police, the banking and financial sectors, and other industry players.

We also have international ties, related to our Financial Action Taskforce (FATF) responsibilities.

Utu a-tau / Salary

The appointing salary for this role will be between $148,972 and $206,570 based on skills and experience.
