Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a focus on obstetrics for a joint academic–clinical role spanning the University of Auckland and Te Whatu Ora – Waitemata.
This 0.5 FTE academic and 0.5 FTE clinical position offers an opportunity to shape the future of women's health through research, teaching, and high-quality clinical care.
Based in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproductive Sciences, you will lead innovative research, supervise postgraduate students, and contribute to teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The department is internationally recognised for its translational research, strong interdepartmental partnerships, and commitment to equity in health outcomes.
Clinically, you will join a progressive, collaborative team at Waitakere Hospital—supporting antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care in a high-volume maternity service.
You will contribute to the obstetric on-call roster, clinical leadership, and service improvement across the Waitemata district.
This is a permanent position with a salary range for Senior Lecturer between $120,752 – $151,251 Plus medical loading (pro-rata) and for Associate Professor from $157,822 Plus medical loading (pro-rata), depending on skills and experience.
Responsibilities
Lead or contribute to high-quality clinical and / or translational research.
Supervise postgraduate students and contribute to teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Provide clinical leadership and contribute to service improvement within Waitemata district.
Support antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care in a high-volume maternity service.
Balance clinical work with research leadership and teaching innovation in a joint academic–clinical appointment.
Qualifications
Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (or eligibility to obtain it).
Fellowship with RANZCOG (or an equivalent specialist qualification).
A PhD or MD, or substantial research experience in obstetrics and gynaecology.
Proven ability to lead or contribute to high-quality clinical and / or translational research.
Experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, with a commitment to student development.
Ability to work effectively across academic and clinical settings, including supervision and service improvement.
A clear focus on advancing health equity, particularly for Maori and Pacific communities.
