OverviewDepartment of Mechanical Engineering | School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical SciencesThe Department of Mechanical Engineering within the School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences (SECMS) at AUT is seeking to appoint a permanent staff at a Lecturer in Mechatronics and Dynamics.
Candidate should have a PhD and a record of teaching experience and research success in Mechatronics and Dynamics areas in Engineering.The commencement date will be in December 2025 or by negotiation.About the School and DepartmentThe Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of five departments of the SECMS and currently has academic programmes in Mechanical and Mechatronics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with strong interests in Energy, Design, Materials and Manufacturing, Biomedical Engineering, System Dynamic and Control, Robotics and Mechatronics.
Our programs are contemporary and popular, and we have built a reputation of excellence in teaching, research and engagement with the wider community through the dedication and expertise of our staff.
The department offers a diverse and inclusive working environment with opportunities to grow and develop careers.The school currently has over 2800 equivalent full-time students and about 120 permanent academic staff with approximately 190 PhD students.Role and ResponsibilitiesThis position will involve conducting high quality research, teaching and developing academic programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
A successful applicant will be expected to contribute to research and postgraduate supervision in one or more of the above-mentioned areas through her / his specialist field and take a leading role in service and teaching.
The salary level offered, and related workload conditions will be commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful applicant.QualificationsPhD in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, Dynamics and Mechanical Systems, Control and Automation Engineering or related disciplineSound knowledge in mechatronics, robotics, system dynamics, control, mechanisms, engineering mechanics and related fieldsStrong ability in firmware and real time control algorithm development for mechatronic systems & applying knowledge in dynamics and designing various components for mechanical systems and automationAbility of developing relevant course contents including lab development, lectures and capacity to adapt to a range of learning and teaching styles and employing diverse delivery techniques to a wide range of studentsIndependent research experience and ability to undertake research in related areas through project supervision, publications and, where relevant, associated scholarly activitiesCommunication and teamwork skills to foster a cooperative work culture both within and outside the schoolAwareness and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equityAbility to secure research funding, initiate projects and develop partnerships with industry stakeholdersAbility and preparedness to participate in the school-wide administrative dutiesGenerous leave allowancesFlexible and hybrid working optionsBenefits and Working EnvironmentAt AUT, we offer a genuine work-life balance with flexible working arrangements.
