Mercury is seeking aProject Engineer - Electricalto lead and deliver electrical workstreams across our hydro and geothermal generation projects.
This is a unique opportunity to work on some of New Zealand's oldest and most iconic energy assets—reviving and upgrading 70-year-old equipment, bringing legacy infrastructure into the future to meet the demands of a modern, sustainable energy system.
In this role, you'll work across all stages of the project lifecycle—from design and planning through to installation, commissioning, and close-out.
You'll collaborate closely with Asset and Site Engineering teams, operational staff, and external partners to define scope, solve technical challenges, and ensure safe, high-quality outcomes.
Your electrical engineering expertise and ability to engage across disciplines will be key to driving innovation and maintaining asset integrity.
We offer flexibility in our hours to accommodate your lifestyle, you can work from our office, one of our sites, or from home while still valuing the opportunities to work with your wider team to collaborate.
Our preference is for this role to be based in Rotorua, close to our hydro and geothermal sites, but there is the opportunity to choose to be based in Hamilton with travel to our sites required.
Key responsibilities include :
Provide technical expertise to lead the project electrical engineering workstreams to achieve the generation project goals
Collaborate with key resources to assist in the implementation of the electrical system works for several projects running concurrently
Collaborate with the wider Mercury team regarding alignment of projects goals
Ensure the technical integrity of assets by addressing asset risk through Generation Projects
A minimum of 5 years Electrical Engineering experience within the electrical industry
Has a strong electrical engineering background (ideally with hydro or geothermal experience)
Can lead technical discussions, evaluate challenges, and co-create solutions
Is confident working with certified personnel and managing engineering consultants
Understands safety in design and technical quality management
Thrives in a flexible, collaborative environment
