Join Auckland Council's Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience department as a Healthy Waters Specialist within the Wai Ora Urban Partnership team.
This is a unique opportunity to deliver innovative, community-led solutions for flood resilience and water quality across urban and rural Auckland.
You'll work closely with iwi, community groups, and internal stakeholders to support the delivery of impactful environmental initiatives, including the Community Flood Resilience initiative and Wai Care Programmes

Day-to-day you could expect to work on :
Supporting community-led flood resilience and water quality initiatives
Providing technical advice on flood resilience, riparian planting, and stormwater management
Building capacity within community groups and local organisations
Partnering with iwi and stakeholders to deliver restoration projects
Supporting the delivery of the Wai Care and Community Flood Resilience Programmes
Promoting health and safety and financial accountability across projects
Championing innovation and best practice in stormwater and environmental solutions
Enhancing customer satisfaction and community engagement outcomes
You're a collaborative and adaptable professional with a strong background in environmental or civil engineering, community engagement, and project delivery.
You thrive in cross-functional environments and are confident working with diverse stakeholders, including iwi, industry, and community groups.
You're passionate about creating sustainable outcomes and have a strong understanding of water quality, flood mitigation, and climate resilience.
Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts in an accessible way makes you a trusted advisor and partner.
Specifically, we are looking for :
5+ years' experience in environmental management, community engagement, or restoration
Proven ability to work with iwi and community groups on water-related initiatives
Strong understanding of stormwater, contaminant reduction, and flood mitigation
Experience in project management, including budgeting and contract oversight
Ability to support citizen science and run community workshops
Sound knowledge of water sensitive design, green infrastructure and community-led development principles.
Relevant tertiary qualification and professional membership (or working towards)
