As the Weld Shop Supervisor, you'll guide a skilled team, drive quality outcomes, and ensure smooth daily operations.
This role is customer facing, requiring strong communication and technical problem solving skills to assess and scope work on the go.This is a 12-month fixed-term contract.Key Responsibilities : Team Leadership & WorkflowSupervise and support workshop staff, ensuring tasks are clearly delegated and understood.Lead by example with professional conduct and respectful communication.Maintain a safe, tidy, and organised workshop environment.Customer-Facing & Technical DutiesEngage directly with clients to discuss work requirements and assess scope on-siteProvide technical solutions and adapt to changing priorities, especially around breakdowns and urgent work.Perform welding and fabrication using MIG, TIG, Stick, and other methods.Operate workshop machinery, including Brake Press and others as needed.Manage job packs, liaise with departments, and ensure deadlines are met.Quality & SafetyEnsure quality control processes are followed and continuously improved.Complete job cards and documentation accurately.Uphold safety standards and participate in toolbox meetings, audits, and hazard identification.What We're Looking ForWe're after someone who brings both technical skill and leadership to the table.
Ideally, you'll have : Proven experience supervising a fabrication or welding teamAt least 5 years' hands-on welding and fabrication experienceA trade qualification as a Fitter / Welder or equivalent time-served experienceStrong technical ability with the confidence to read and interpret engineering drawingsExcellent communication and leadership skills to guide and support your teamGood computer literacy and attention to detail in documentationA proactive mindset with strong problem-solving and prioritisation skillsA commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvementTo be eligible for this position, you must have the legal right to work in NZ.The successful candidate must pass drug, alcohol, and medical checks.
