Visitor Services Supervisor – Retail & Admissions

Overview

The National Aquarium of New Zealand is looking for a motivated and people-focused Visitor Services Supervisor to join our team on a one-year fixed-term basis. Overseeing reception, admissions, retail, café, and event operations, you’ll play a key role in ensuring every guest enjoys an exceptional visit — from arrival to departure.

You’ll be a hands-on leader who thrives in a busy, visitor-facing environment. You’ll mentor staff, manage retail performance, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations, creating an atmosphere of excellence, teamwork, and care. The Opportunity

Responsibilities

• Lead and support a Visitor Services team across reception, admissions, retail, café, and events.
• Ensure consistently high standards of customer service, presentation, and safety.
• Manage retail operations including stock control, merchandising, and sales performance.
• Supervise events and venue hire to deliver seamless guest experiences.
• Drive continuous improvement in processes, procedures, and visitor engagement.
• Support staff development through coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback.
• Contribute to operational planning and help achieve revenue and visitation goals.

About You

What we Offer

This is a one year fixed-term opportunity working 35 hours per week over a 7 day operation (alternative weekend work essential). You will be based at the National Aquarium of New Zealand on Napier’s iconic Marine Parade.

The annual salary package for this role for 35 hours per week is between $64,100-$75,400 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
