The Senior Compliance Officer works closely with internal teams and external agencies, balancing reactive compliance responses with proactive monitoring and investigations to ensure high-quality, consistent results. This is an opportunity for a confident compliance specialist who thrives in a dynamic environment, combining strategic thinking with practical leadership to support Napier City Council’s regulatory goals. You’ll bring a strong understanding of compliance, monitoring, and enforcement in a local government setting, along with highly developed interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and build relationships. Te Āheinga - The Opportunity

• investigate complaints, gather evidence, guide compliance outcomes, and take appropriate enforcement action where non-compliance occurs across multiple regulatory areas.
• monitor compliance with applicable legislation including resource consent conditions, plan rules, and by carrying out inspections and investigations.
• collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to find practical, constructive solutions to compliance issues.
• mentor and support team members, sharing your expertise and best practice approach.

This is a permanent, full time opportunity working 40 hours per week (generally Monday-Friday, but some after hours flexibility required). You will be based in Napier and travel across the city for inspections and engagement.

The annual salary package for this role is between $91,400-$107,500 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
