ABOUT THE ROLE – NGA AHUATANGA O TE TURANGA
The Senior Emergency Management Advisor plays a pivotal role in identifying risks from hazards and building the resilience of the Taupo District.
This is achieved by empowering and engaging with Council, individuals, partners, organisations, and communities to support informed decision-making around emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.
The role is responsible for designing and delivering emergency management programmes, fostering community-led initiatives such as response plans and centres, and ensuring culturally appropriate engagement and education.
It also involves cultivating trusted partnerships, supporting emergency response operations, and maintaining readiness through training and exercises.
The advisor will work across Council and with external stakeholders to ensure the district is well-prepared and capable in the face of emergencies.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
We are seeking a strategic and community-minded individual with a tertiary qualification in Emergency Management or Community Development / Engagement, and a current CIMS Level 4 or equivalent.
The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving and communication skills, empathy for iwi and community needs, and the ability to lead with influence in high-pressure situations.
Experience in emergency response or recovery, iwi engagement, and volunteer management is essential.
The successful candidate will be calm in a crisis, digitally competent, and confident using Microsoft Office tools.
Desirable attributes include cultural, political, and community awareness, as well as project management experience.
A commitment to health and safety, and the ability to build sustainable relationships across diverse groups, are also key to success in this role.
